The Narcotrend pEEG monitor has been developed by an interdisciplinary research group at the University Medical School of Hannover, Germany; it has been commercially available for over 15 years and has meanwhile received US Food and Drug Administration approval and is included in the NICE guidelines. The main purpose and passion of the Narcotrend Group is to support the assessment of the patients` hypnotic state in both OR and ICU; the use of 3 standard cost-effective ECG/ EEG electrodes means pEEG can benefit many more patients.
The company is committed to continuously support the use and understanding of pEEG and translate knowledge into improved technology and validated algorithms for all age groups. There lies so much more beyond just an index number or classification.
Narcotrend was introduced to the UK by the distributor Gwenagen Ltd. For UK and Ireland enquiries please contact their Partner Distributor PharmedUK.

Clinical application
In a large multi-centre study including over 4600 patients, clinical benefits of EEG monitoring could be demonstrated. Propofol consumption was significantly reduced and emergence times were significantly shortened. Recent studies advocate the use of the Narcotrend in paediatric anaesthesia.
